Owneo
Owneo — Privacy Policy
This policy covers the Owneo app for iOS, published by Dmytro Grytsenko ("I", "me"). It explains what the app does with your information. The website at grytsenko.dev has its own separate policy, and use of the app is governed by the Owneo Terms of Use.
Summary
Owneo does not collect your personal data. There is no account to create, no analytics SDK, no advertising and no tracking, and nothing you enter is ever sent to me. It stays in the app's storage on your device and, if you turn on sync, in your own iCloud account.
Information the app handles
Everything you enter is stored locally on your device using Apple's own frameworks, and none of it is sent to me. That includes:
- The things you add and their details — names, categories, purchase dates and prices, and fields such as serial numbers, VINs or a pet's breed
- Reminders, maintenance records and each thing's activity history
- The photo you take or choose for a thing
- Documents and scans you attach — receipts, warranties, insurance, registration, identity or medical papers
- Preferences such as the time reminders are delivered and the app's appearance
Permissions
Owneo asks iOS for access only for the feature named next to it:
| Access | Used for |
|---|---|
| Camera | Photographing a thing or scanning a document, only when you choose to. |
| Notifications | Alerting you before, on and after the dates you set. Alerts are scheduled on your device; no server sends them. |
| Photos | Choosing a photo through Apple's system picker, which hands the app only the photo you select — no access to the rest of your library is requested. |
Declining switches off only the feature that needs it. You can change your answer at any time in Settings → Owneo.
On-device processing
Smart Fill reads the text of a scanned page with Apple's Vision framework, entirely on your iPhone. Neither the page nor the text is uploaded anywhere, and the suggested details are applied only after you review and confirm them.
iCloud sync
When sync is on, your content moves between your devices through your own iCloud account, using Apple's CloudKit. That data sits in Apple's infrastructure under your Apple Account and is governed by Apple's Privacy Policy. I have no access to it and cannot read, recover or delete it on your behalf. Turning off iCloud for Owneo in Settings stops the sync.
iCloud sync is part of Owneo Pro and has its own switch in Owneo's Settings. Turning it off, signing out of iCloud or Pro ending pauses the sync and leaves everything on your device exactly as it was.
Backups you export
Exporting a backup creates a single file holding your data, including any photos and attached files. The app does not encrypt it. You choose where that file goes — Files, AirDrop, email or a cloud drive — and from then on it is handled by whichever service you save it to or send it through. Importing a backup reads the file on your device and sends nothing anywhere.
Purchases
In-app purchases and subscriptions are processed entirely by Apple. I never see your payment card, billing address or Apple Account details — the app only receives a receipt confirming that a purchase is valid. Manage or cancel subscriptions in Settings → your name → Subscriptions.
What the app never does
- No advertising SDKs and no ad tracking.
- No selling or renting of personal data, ever.
- No access to contacts, photos, location or health data unless you explicitly grant it for a feature that needs it — and then only while that feature is in use.
- No hidden background collection.
Who receives data
Nobody on my side — I run no server, and the app sends me nothing. The only services involved are Apple's, working for you under your own Apple Account:
- Apple iCloud (sync, under your own Apple Account)
- Apple (payment processing for in-app purchases)
These are governed by Apple's Privacy Policy.
Retention and deletion
Data stored on your device lives there until you delete it in the app or remove the app. Deleting Owneo from your iPhone removes its local storage. Things you archive are kept for 30 days and then deleted from the device automatically, unless you restore them first. To remove the synced copy as well, delete the app data from iCloud in Settings → your name → iCloud → Manage Account Storage.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, delete or port your personal data, and to object to or restrict its processing. Since the app is built to hold as little as possible, most of these you can exercise yourself directly in the app. For anything else, email [email protected]. EU and UK residents may also complain to their national data protection authority.
Children
Owneo is not directed at children under 13, and I do not knowingly collect personal data from them. If you believe a child has provided personal data, contact me and I'll delete it.
Changes
If this policy changes, the "Last updated" date above changes with it, and significant changes will be flagged in the app's release notes.
